Privacy Policy

Overview

V1X is a companion app for the Valentine One Gen 2 radar detector. This policy describes what data the app collects, how it is used, and what is shared with third parties.

Short version: V1X collects your location to show your position on the map and record where alerts occur. Alert history, saved zones, and your driving path stay on your device; only approximate location is sent to the map and road-information providers needed to draw the map and show the current road and speed limit, never tied to your identity. No account is required. No data is sold. No advertising identifiers are used.

Data We Collect

Location

V1X requests precise location permission to center the map on your vehicle and record GPS coordinates when alerts are received. Background location is used to maintain accurate alert positions when the screen is off. Alert locations, saved zone coordinates, and your driving path are stored locally on your device only.

Bluetooth

V1X connects to your Valentine One Gen 2 via Bluetooth. No Bluetooth data is collected or transmitted beyond the local device-to-device connection needed to receive V1 alert information.

Data We Do Not Collect

  • No account, login, or user identity
  • No advertising identifiers (IDFA, GAID)
  • No analytics or usage tracking
  • No crash reporting (in v1.0)
  • No payment information — V1X does not currently offer in-app purchases

Third-Party Services

V1X does not embed any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. V1X does not currently offer in-app purchases; any future in-app purchases would be processed by Apple through the App Store, subject to Apple's privacy policy.

The app contacts the following external services:

  • Apple Maps / Google Maps — V1X renders the map using the device's native map framework: Apple Maps on iOS and Google Maps on Android. Map requests include your approximate viewport and are handled by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies, never linked to your identity: apple.com/legal/privacy, policies.google.com/privacy
  • OpenStreetMap (Overpass API) — to show the current road name and posted speed limit, V1X queries the public OpenStreetMap Overpass API with your approximate coordinates. No account or identifier is sent. The OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy applies: wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy
  • Fixed Speed Camera Database — V1X periodically checks for and downloads an updated database of fixed speed-camera locations: a lightweight version check to a hosted file server, then a download of the database file from a private GitHub release asset using a read-only access token. No personal data or location is sent in these requests. GitHub's privacy policy applies: docs.github.com/en/site-policy/privacy-policies

Data Retention

All locally stored data (alert history, saved zones, device preferences) can be cleared by deleting the app.

Children

V1X is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.
